TIP SHEET FOR GIRLS
This Tip Sheet is an effort on the part of the Administrators of the Alaska Girl State Program to assist you in preparing for your arrival. Careful consideration of these tips will serve to make your experience at Alaska Girls State more convenient and comfortable.
ARRIVAL TIME: Registration and City assignments will start at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday June 6th, 2009. Please plan to arrive prior to 5:00 p.m. so you can be registered before dinner.
TRANSPORTATION: Sponsors or Parents are responsible for furnishing all transportation to and from the Girl State Program. The American Legion Girls State will have a representative to meet Delegates at the Airport or Train Depot and transport them to Girls State.
Girl arriving by air should wear an American Legion Auxiliary poppy on their left chest so that they can be recognized.
MEDICAL CERTIFICATE: Mail back to prior to May 20, 2009. (WE MUST HAVE THEM)
MEDICAL SERVICE: Excellent medical facilities will be provided. At any time of the day or night, competent doctors are available at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center and West Valley Medical Campus. Every effort possible is made to safeguard the health of, and to prevent accidents to, all Girls State Citizens. There will be a registered nurse set up in the onsite infirmary for the entire session.
FOOD: The first meal will be served on Saturday evening June 6, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.
SLEEPING QUARTERS: You will be assigned to a City where you will sleep. Sheets and Blankets a bath towel, hand towel and a wash cloth will be provided. The cabins are heated, with electricity.
TOILET ARTICLES: Citizens should bring the following: Tooth Brush, Tooth Paste, Comb, Brush, Shampoo, Bath Soap, etc. Bug repellent (the mosquitoes are ravenous)
CLOTHING: Each citizen should bring the usual one-week supply of clothing (you may want a dress or dressy outfit for speeches and Installation/Graduation) include a warm coat for chilly days and nights. No halter tops, short shorts or skirts.
RECREATION EQUIPMENT: Tennis shoes, Shorts, athletic equipment desired may be brought to Girls State. Every citizen is expected to participate in all types of sports, NOT JUST ONE.
BE SURE TO BRING YOUR SWIMSUIT..
MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS: or other equipment you may want for a talent show.
SCHOOL EQUIPMENT: Each girl should bring Pencils, Pens, Stationary & Stamped Envelopes and a notebook.
VISITORS: Visitors are welcome, but must not interfere with the sessions or regular schedule of Girls State, which is rather full.
MONEY: Girls State sells candy bars, granola bars, etc. during recreation time each day.
SESSION PHOTOGRAPHS: Photos will be taken and available for sell. 8 x 10 colored for $5.00, 5x7 $3.00, and 4x6 $1.00. These pictures will be displayed for ordering and must be paid for when picked up. Extra Photos will be available for parents on Friday evening.
